We Care About What You Care About: Cario Toothpaste

At Credit River Dental Centre our goal is to help our patients maintain good oral hygiene and health smiles. We believe there that no two smiles are alike and recommend all treatments or products based on our patient’s needs.

One important home care adjunct we have brought to our office is Cario toothpaste made by Oral Science. The benefits of Cario toothpaste are that is it fluoride-free, gluten and GMO-free, and can aid in preventing tooth decay. It is ideal for those who choose to be fluoride-dree, vegetarians, and young children. Cario toothpaste contains xylitol which is extracted from natural resources therefore a great alternative for those who prefer no chemical products.

Cario toothpaste’s active ingredient is 25% Xylitol.  Xylitol is a sugar alcohol found in plants and vegetables. It looks and tastes like sugar but has fewer calories. It’s the only sugar that does not cause tooth decay and can reduce the dental bacteria which normally cause tooth cavity. Traditional dental fluoride kills germs and bacteria by contact.  However, Xylitol stops germs and bacteria by starving them so the acids that contribute to tooth decay are not created.

It is designed for all ages including children and toddlers.  According to CDA (Canadian Dental Association) the use of fluoride toothpaste by children under 3 years of age is determined by the risk of tooth decay, and for children between 3-6 years of age only a very small amount of fluoridated toothpaste is to be used while an adult assists them in brushing their teeth. This is to avoid a child from swallowing fluoridated toothpaste during brushing and which can cause nausea and vomiting.

Cario toothpaste has two flavors which are spearmint and bubble gum. Spearmint is designed for people who like breath-freshening and cooling sensation with the mouth during and after brushing. Bubble gum flavors are great for kids or people who are sensitive to cooling or minty sensations.  Because of its very mild, pleasant flavor and taste children become encourage to brush their teeth regularly and develop good oral care habits for life.

To maintain good oral hygiene and keep a beautiful smile every day, our team highly recommends following the homecare regimen recommended by our dental professionals.  If you have any questions and concerns related to your oral health please feel free to call Credit Rive Dental Centre at 905-278-4297.
