You’re as Good as the Company You Keep!

My mother always told me, “Be careful of who you allow in, they should never give you reasons to let them out.” But, like any young teenager at the time, it was always who had the most friends, who was the most popular, who got to go to the nicest restaurants and fancy trips. We always craved quantity over quality, even if it wasn’t always good for us. Fast forward to 15 years later, I couldn’t agree with her more.
I’ve come to realize that having 500 friends couldn’t amount to the 5 close ones who I could run to anytime I needed to. I could go on dozens of trips, but only appreciate the memorable ones. I could visit multiple malls and still only go to my favourite store and always end up with a purchase. Even dating a number of people; yet only remembering the ones who I cared for the most. Life is so full of options and yet not all are always the best for us.
This also goes for the types of services that we obtain on a day to day basis. Whether it’s going for an oil change, buying a car, a house, the dry cleaners, and a family physician. With so many viable options, it’s hard to choose which may be the best. Nowadays, you hear about a good place that a friend or coworker raves about and you decide to give it a try because everyone is going there. Yet, when you do, it doesn’t seem to sway you, but it seems convenient enough, and you figure they must be doing it right if everyone else does. Sometimes we tend to forget that little gut feeling that even though it doesn’t feel right.
The dentistry world isn’t always one that gets looked as a pleasant place. It is this place where most people associate it with unpleasant experiences. Often times, when patients require dental work, they choose one that’s close and that’s cheap. Surely the service is all the same if the work is all the same right?
Well just like having 500 friends, not everyone is going to have your best interests at heart. Having to pay for a dental visit at a fraction of the cost but over 1000 times for the same issues versus a fairly priced one time visit or even regularly scheduled hygiene appointments seems like a given answer. Yet we don’t always trust in ourselves to believe in the right choice to begin with. Don’t be afraid to ask questions because a great dental office will always steer you in the right direction towards optimal oral health.
